‘Kill Dil’ gets ‘kill’ed officially; collects a mere Rs 20 crore in opening weekend

Expectations seldom turn into reality! ‘Kill Dil’ is an example in this case. The movie, which opened to mixed reviews, has managed to collect a mere Rs 13 crore in its opening weekend and Rs 20 cr including the figures on Sunday.

There were high expectations from the talented trio of actors and the trailer looked promising but it failed miserably. If you had expected Parineeti Chopra to look extra hot in the movie, you would be disappointed; Ranveer Singh to transfer his hyper energy to you, you would be disappointed again; Ali Zafar to mesmerize you with the cuteness, you are in for a surprise; and Govinda to outshine all others in his ‘comeback’, you are in for a rude shock.

Even the talented Parineeti’s acting couldn’t uplift a dead plot, Ranveer Singh’s ‘ooaaaooonnnnn – ooooaaaooonnnnn’ just makes you cringe. You are in for a surprise because nothing excites about Ali Zafar, except his baritone. And you’re in for a rude shock, because Govinda doesn’t come back with the comeback. He drifts further away. Long distance! Critics say he has been underutilized in the movie and rightly so. Govinda of the 90s’ made us dance when he danced and laugh when he laughed, but this Govinda isn’t able to catch the feat.

Known film critic Bhawana Somaya tweeted the figures of ‘Kill Dil’ which has been below average with the movie managing only Rs 13.95 cr in two days of its release.

Later, it was reported that the movie managed about Rs 7 cr on Sunday taking the collections to Rs 20 Cr for three days. The movie had been made on a budget of Rs 35 cr and if the dismal run continues, it won’t even be able to recover its costs.

Festive offer

Talking about the cast, this can become Parineeti’s third flop; second in row after ‘Daawat-e-Ishq’. Ranveer Singh, however, won’t be affected much as ‘RamLeela’ earned a Rs 100 cr at the box office and ‘Bajirao Mastaani’ can be expected to repeat the feat. Ali Zafar also doesn’t have much to lose. And as ‘Kill Dil’ is doing quite well in Pakistan; just below ‘Kick’ and ‘Happy New Year’.

Will it affect Govinda much? He had high hopes from this movie and it all seems a waste effort. Now all hopes are pinned on Saif Ali Khan’s ‘Happy Ending’. And it’s surely not a cakewalk.

Director Shaad Ali’s previous release ‘Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom’ too met with a similar response – a mixed review from the critics, stating that the movie confuses them and a lukewarm response at the Box Office.

It remains to be seen if ‘Kill Dil’ picks up with time, or drowns further. It also is time warped mystery whether we will be able to say ‘Govinda Aala Re’? Will the Govinda saga have a ‘Happy Ending’?
