Man held for uploading ‘obscene’ pictures of woman

According to the officers at the cyber cell, the complainant, a 25-year-old, works at a Christian community orgnisation in Nagpada.

A 28-year-old event manager in Nagpada was held last week by the Cyber Crime Cell (CCIC) of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch after he created a social media profile and uploaded obscene pictures of a young woman that his prospective mother-in-law had a tiff with.

According to the officers at the cyber cell, the complainant, a 25-year-old, works at a Christian community orgnisation in Nagpada. Earlier this month, her friends brought to her attention — a Facebook profile in her name — that featured her nude photographs.  She, immediately, lodged a written complaint with the CCIC.

“We first wrote to Facebook to have the profile deleted. We, then, asked for the Internet Protocol address from which the profile had been created. We tracked down the physical address to a Christian school in south Mumbai,” said an officer with the CCIC.

“The IP address was that of a data card given by the school’s management to a former female employee,” the officer said. The police said that the data card was used largely by the fiance of the woman’s daughter. He allegedly confessed to having morphed the pictures and creating a fake profile to defame the complainant.
