One name to say it all, and win markets in Kozhikode

Kudumbasree food products now to be a common brand

November 17, 2014 09:10 am | Updated 09:10 am IST - Kozhikode:

For the first time in the history of Kudumbasree Mission, the food products of Kudumbasree units in a district will be marketed under a common brand name.

The food products such as rice flour, cereal powders, pickles, curry masalas, dried items, payasam mix, beaten rice, pappad, jam, squash, drink mix, and local snacks will now be brought under the brand name ‘Grameen’ as per the Samrudhi (Sustainable micro enterprise units of Kudumbasree derived through healthy interventions) project of the Kozhikode District Kudumbasree Mission.

The project is being formulated by Yoga Sidha, a herbal products venture under the Kayanna grama panchayat Community Development Society (CDS), with the help of Eksat, an accredited training team of Kudumbasree, on the occasion of the 10 anniversary of Yoga Sidha.

Under the project, 25 new entrepreneur groups have been set up under the various CDS units in the district.

This will ensure a steady income to 200 families.

Loans and subsidies

The entrepreneurs will be trained by Yoga Sidha, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, and Eksat. The Canara Bank has agreed to extend loans to these groups while Kudumbasree District Mission will offer subsidies.

Retail shops

The products under the ‘Grameen’ brand will be marketed through retail shops, super markets, and Kudumbasree outlets in the district.

Get-together

A get-together of the entrepreneurs will be organised to expand the marketing network.

A one-day workshop will be held at Cooperative Bank Auditorium in Kayanna on Monday to prepare a business plan for these entrepreneurs.

Former Finance Minister Thomas Isaac will inaugurate the Samrudhi project at Kayanna on November 21 at a function, which will be presided over by Balussery MLA Purushan Kadalundi.

District panchayat president Kanathil Jameela will inaugurate the Yoga Sidha training centre on the occasion while Perambra block panchayat president M. Kunhammad will inaugurate the quality lab.

Former MLA T.P. Ramakrishnan, Kayanna grama panchayat president A.M. Ramachandran, Kudumbasree governing board members S.P. Kunhammad, Jeeja Das, Lead Bank manager K. Bhuvandas, and Nutrimix general manager Jasmi Beegum will take part in the programme.
