Margao: The proposal for developing Cola village of Canacona taluka into a model village under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) received the sanction of the gram sabha of Cola panchayat at a special meeting on Sunday.
South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, agriculture minister Ramesh Tawadkar, Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar, BJP president Vinay Tendulkar, district collector Venancio Furtado, besides others, were present at the gram sabha.

Sawaikar held aloft a vision of a ‘dispute-free’ Cola where peace and harmony reigns in the hearts of all residents.
The villagers pledged their wholehearted co-operation in the task.
Various committees headed by sarpanch Anjali Velip and consisting of panchayat and gram sabha members on key focus areas of the scheme like sanitation, education, health, agriculture and tourism, etc were formed at the meeting. The committees have been tasked with coordinating with the officials concerned of government agencies and the people in the implementation of the scheme.
At the gram sabha, villagers pointed out several difficulties faced by them owing to inadequate facilities and urged authorities to address the issues. Tawadkar urged the farmers to take maximum benefit of the various schemes of the state agriculture department. Agriculture and fishing is the mainstay of the village which has a population of 7,500.
The SAGY has been prepared by the Union rural development ministry. Funds available under 60 various central government schemes for rural development will be utilized for the purpose, apart from the funds from MPLAD scheme.
