‘Truth prevails’: A business tycoon relives memories

Autobiography highlights Sadruddin Hashwani’s struggle and rise as a businessman.

ISLAMABAD: Friends and well-wishers at a select gathering of the capital’s elite shared their views about and association with one of Pakistan’s most prominent businessmen at the launch of his memoirs on Sunday.

The book “Truth Always Prevails”, a memoir of Sadruddin Hashwani, a self-narrated account of his personal experiences and struggle as an entrepreneur while giving an in-depth account of Pakistan’s economic and evolutionary highs and lows.

According to a press release, it narrates Hashwani’s journey to becoming the ‘Cotton King of Pakistan’, the economic suffering after the nationalisation in 70s, the birth of hospitality industry and the challenge of instability in policies.



“This book is as much a historical account of the story of Pakistan as it is that of a man, a son, a father, a Pakistani and an entrepreneur realising the ‘Pakistani Dream’”, it states.

Broad spectrum of speakers, including business, diplomats, politicians and celebrities shared their views about the book and the author.

“I have known Hashwani for more than two decades, I thought I knew everything about him, but the book stores many surprises,” former army chief General (retd) Jahangir Karamat and Ambassador of Pakistan to USA said while addressing the gathering as chief guest.

Karamat, who has been a close friend of the author, said that it was not just an extraordinary frank account of a life truly well-lived but also documents his services to Pakistan and his struggles against the odds.

He said that everything was there in the book – politics, military-civil relations, social interactions and of course the business world lay bare. There are many eye openers in this book, It narrates all landmark events in Pakistan’s history with a deep insight into the past its linkage with present and a sneak peek into the future,” he said.

“It is an emotional day for me to be here to launch my autobiography,” said Sadruddin Hashwani, Chairman Hashoo Group.

Hashwani who had settled abroad for several years has now returned to Pakistan to serve the country. “I left Pakistan for personal reasons, but now I am back and have plans of expanding my business,” he said.

Speaking about his book, he said that the story highlights struggles of his entire life that made him the person he is today. “I had confronted several challenges throughout my life but I am ready to forgive all those who had persecuted me in the past,” he added.

Commenting on the economic and political turmoil, he said that Pakistan had unfortunately seen dictators and leaders who ruled this country. “There is nothing that Pakistanis cannot achieve with sincere leadership and their unity.” We need to motivate people do investment and run their business with honesty and transparency, he stated.

Brushing aside rumours in the social media about his entering into politics, Hashwani said that he is not entering politics any time soon. “Politics is not my subject. If it was I would have been in politics many years ago,” he said.

The audience was mesmerised by Abida Parveen reciting her famous Sufi Kalaam ‘Yar ko hum ne ja baja dekha’.

Comedian Umer Shareef paid tribute to Hashwani in his unique amusing way.

I rank Mr Haswani as one of tne greatest personalities of this country a true servant a mentor and a visionary businessman with a true patriotic heart and have no doubts over his recent publication

We need more investment. Good statements from him will increase investor confidence.
