Fishing boat runs aground near Dhanushkodi
RAMESWARAM: A fishing boat that ventured into the Palk Strait on Saturday night ran aground on a sand dune near Dhanushkodi.
The boat that belonged to M Loyola of Pamban set sail from the Rameswaram fishing jetty with six crew members. The crew members were safe.
Marine police sources at Mandapam said that the fishermen claimed that the boat ran aground near the fifth sand dune, which is situated in the Indian waters.

“The boat would be salvaged by Sunday evening,” a marine police official said.
After almost 15 days of protest against the death sentence given to five Indians by a Sri Lankan court, the fishermen in Rameswaram went for fishing on Saturday night after temporarily withdrawing their strike. More than 650 boats sailed from here.
