Padayatra concludes at Sagar

November 16, 2014 12:36 pm | Updated 12:36 pm IST - Shivamogga:

The two-day padayatra taken out by the residents of Karur and Barangi hoblis in Sharavati backwaters region demanding construction of a bridge to connect Kalasavalli with Ambaragodlu villages concluded at Sagar on Saturday.

Addressing a protest meet at Sagar, social activist Prasanna Kerekai said the residents of Karur and Barangi hoblis had parted with their land for the construction of the Linganamakki reservoir across the Sharavati. The entire State benefited from the power generated at the Sharavati hydro electricity project. It was unfortunate that basic amenities in Karur and Barangi hoblis were in a bad state. Although the State government had approved the construction of Kalasavalli-Ambaragodlu bridge in 2009, the funds for the project was not released. As the people there had parted with their land for public cause, the government should announce a special financial package for the development of the region, he said.

R.K. Siddaramanna, MLC, the former Minister H. Halappa and former MLA from Belur Gopalakrishna were present.
