Minister trying to scuttle probe: BJP

November 16, 2014 12:16 pm | Updated 12:16 pm IST - Kozhikode:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State general secretary K. Surendran has alleged that a Congress Minister from north Kerala is trying to scuttle the probe into the sexual assault of a four-and-half -year old girl student of an English Medium School at Parakkadavu in the district.

At a news conference here on Saturday, Mr. Surendran also alleged that a high-level conspiracy had been hatched to shield the culprits in the case. This was similar to the sex scandal case of Panthirikkara in rural Kozhikode where minor girls were sexually abused.

He alleged that a Minister, top ranking police officers and some social leaders had joined hands to scuttle the investigation.

The interference of the Thamarassery Deputy Superintendent of Police Jaison K. Abraham in the probe right from the beginning could be suspected as part of this conspiracy, the BJP leader alleged. He said that the investigators had foisted the charge on a bus cleaner earlier. A special branch (intelligence wing) officer had visited his house and had offered him a huge amount for admitting to the crime. Prominent political and religious leaders also compelled his family members, he added.

Mr. Surendran also deplored the attitude of religious leaders attempting to sabotage the probe in the case of a rape of a kindergarten student.

The Home Minister should examine whether the investigation was going on in the right direction.

His department should take action against the SI and others who arrested the innocent bus cleaner.

He said that the school management and religious leaders had convinced the legislators of Kuttiyadi and Nadapuram Assembly constituencies about the case. Now it was up to these MLAs to clarify this to the public, he added.
