GUWAHATI : The
head of the
National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and
Healthcare Providers (NABH), K K
Kalra, on Saturday said the recent tragedy in
Chhattisgarh, in which 13
women died after botched sterilization, could have been prevented if proper measures had been adopted.
Kalra, who was in the city to attend a conference on healthcare organized by a city-based health consultancy firm in coordination with NABH, said, “It is a massive tragedy and it is sad so many women lost their lives.
It is important for both the public and the private sectors engaged in healthcare to have a proper approach in providing quality healthcare service. We need to empower them and provide guidelines on achieving standards,” said Kalra.
He added that architects should be consulted while constructing hospitals for better infrastructure.
