NASHIK: A team of eight doctors from the city will leave for Goa on bicycles on November 16 to take forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Clean India campaign.
The rally will be flagged of by MLAs Seema Hiray and Rahul Aher and mayor Ashok Murtadak at 7 am near Shivaji Statue at Pathardi Phata. The rally, covering a distance of 650 km from Nashik to Goa, will conclude on November 22.
"The rally has been organised with the aim of spreading the message of Clean India, Healthy India.
The cyclists will be cleaning the places along the route, besides creating awareness about cleanliness. They will be distributing 5,000 pamphlets among the citizens," said Amol Patil, organiser of the cycle rally and president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. "Citizens should pledge that they would keep their homes, their premises, their prabhags, their cities, offices, schools and colleges clean," said Amol.
The participants will be cycling from Nashik to Kalyan, Savargaon, Sawantwadi and then to Goa. They will be organising cleanliness drives in all these places.
"Since the past one month, these doctors have been cycling from Nashik to Igatpuri and back to build their stamina. From November 16, every day they will be cycling 150 kms and will halt for rest in our offices in those places or in rest houses. The participants are financing themselves," said Amol.
"They are regular cyclists and we thought why not organise a bicycle rally for some good purpose and to send across a message to the people?" said Amol.
The organisers said that the Clean India campaign announced by the prime minister was organised by many at the city level and that a rally like this would have a wider reach.
