When it comes to dream holidays, country music star Adam Brand is staying True Blue.
WHICH WAS YOUR BEST HOLIDAY?
A few years ago I loaded up my ute, fitted a Carryboy canopy on the back, put a mattress in along with camping gear and headed off to see Australia. I drove all around Tassie, up through the middle of the country to Alice Springs and then to Darwin on the Stuart Highway and then down the Queensland coast. It's easily one of the best things I've ever done. I highly recommended it to anyone who wants an adventure and wants to see what this amazing country of ours has to offer.
Be prepared: Adam Brand's a fan of the Scout motto when travelling.
AND THE BEST HOTEL YOU'VE STAYED IN?
The Banyan Tree in Phuket, Thailand. The hotel has private villas, each with it's own pool that comes right up to the sliding doors around the bedroom; meaning you can roll out of bed and straight into the pool! Bliss. Not only that, when you arrive they give you your very own bike to ride around the resort with – that's how big it is!
WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS TAKE WITH YOU?
An empty suitcase and a big box of first aid – if I get crook, I'm gonna be well prepared!
WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR A PERFECT HOLIDAY?
No appointments, great food and a beautiful quiet beach. Of course, someone to share the perfect holiday with would be nice too!
WHAT'S YOUR BEST PIECE OF TRAVEL ADVICE?
I think you need to be super-organised with all your documents beforehand. I always lock my passport and valuables in a safe as soon as I arrive if somewhere overseas.
AND YOUR WORST EXPERIENCE ON HOLIDAY?
Getting sick while on holiday has to be the worst thing that can happen. Over the years, I've learnt that it's advisable to take a small pharmacy – covering any eventuality – with you when you travel.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST PACKING MISTAKE YOU'VE MADE?
I packed a big bottle of organic coconut oil once and during the journey and it exploded, covering everything in my suitcase!
WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO NEXT?
Sicily. My father was born there and I've yet to make it over. I'd love to eat my way around the island!
