CHENNAI: An Arumbakkam police patrol team apprehended a man from Mumbai when he was attempting to break into a supermarket early on Friday.
A team of Special sub-inspector Rasool Raj and a youth brigade personnel Gunasekaran, were patrolling the area near Sri Shakthi Nagar junction, saw two men attempting to break open the shutters of the supermarket.

The special sub-inspector managed to capture one man, but the other made good his escape. The man who was caught identified himself as Fakruddin, 33, of Mumbai. Police also recovered a car key from him. During interrogation he revealed that he and his accomplice had parked their car in Koyambedu and scouted the area for shops they could break into.
Police found that the car, with a Maharashtra registration plate, they were using had been stolen. Police officers refused to divulge details about the car, saying it could derail their investigation.
Police officers in Chennai contacted their counterparts in Mumbai for information on the crimes that Fakruddin has been charged with. "He only speaks Hindi so it took some time to get his statement," an investigating officer said.
"We suspect that he is a professional criminal and faces charges in Mumbai."
"We are checking footage from security cameras in shops burgled, to see if he was involved in any previous break-ins in the city," the officer said.
court remanded Fakruddin in judicial custody.
