Memphis Depay
PSV say they will have no choice but to listen to offers for the winger Reuters

PSV Eindhoven manager Phillip Cocu has admitted the club will listen to offers for Dutch starlet Memphis Depay.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for the 20-year-old winger after he enjoyed a bright World Cup campaign under Louis van Gaal for Netherlands in the summer.

Depay was advised not to leave the Eredivisie club and signed a contract extension in August, but interest remains high with Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur also credited with keen interest.

Speaking to Dutch magazine Helden, Cocu admits the club will be powerless to stop him leaving the Philips Stadion but retains hope he will see out the remainder of the campaign with PSV.

"Of course, Memphis will be sold. You will not be able to stop it, but it does not matter," former Dutch international Cocu said. "It was nice to be able to form a player like him. I am also glad he stayed with us this season.

"It is important for him to play as many as 50 times in one season before making a big decision [to move to another club]. He can be better than [he is] now. He is very explosive."

Depay, who scored twice for Netherlands as they finished third in Brazil, has helped lift PSV to the summit of Dutch football this season, having scored seven goals in eight appearances while also contributing two assists.

United may be in the market for another option on the wing as early as January. In recent weeks van Gaal has opted to deploy two wide men having previously selected a midfield diamond.

As a result, Angel di Maria has been moved to the wing where he has struggled to replicate his stunning form from earlier in the season.

Depay may be an option if the United boss plans to continue to persist with wingers for the remainder of the season.
