104 works submitted in first Sabah Screen Fest

KOTA KINABALU: The first Sabah Screen Fest (SSF) attracted 104 works from primary and secondary schools, and members of the public.

According to Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat at the award ceremony held near here on Thursday evening, the fest had received six participation
under the animation category from primary schools and 17 participation from secondary schools.

It also received a total of 25 participation from primary schools in Sabah in the short
film category and 25 participation from secondary schools.

For the open category, the fest received a total of six documentaries, five advertisements and 18 short
films, he said.

He added that the objective of the fest was to provide an opportunity to those in the creative sector to showcase their work and creativity in the making of short films, documentaries and adverts.

“It also opens a new opportunity for our students to partake in the creative industry as preparation when they embark in the employment market,” he said.

Among the winners in the fest were SK Kampung Jawa Tawau, which won the main prize of RM1,000 cash prize in the Best Animation category for primary schools, and SMK Bandau for the same category under the secondary schools section.

Their entries were entitled ‘Tamu’ and ‘Aman and Penguik’, respectively.
