Children's Day: Copies of Tamil novelette Ayesha distributed to students, teachers
MADURAI: An aided school in Madurai rural district distributed copies of “Ayesha,” a novelette written by Tamil author R Natarajan, to the students and the teachers as part of the Children’s Day celebrations on Friday.
St Claret Hr Sec School in Karumathur near Usilampatti distributed the copies of the novelette to 1,000 students studying in Classes 10, 11 and 12 and to all 60 teachers.

“Ayesha” is the story of an enthusiastic and curious schoolgirl who ends up facing the ire of her teachers.
Punished and rebuked often for her relentless pestering of teachers to learn more, the child in the story injects herself with nitrous oxide so that she could be numb to beating of teachers and she dies eventually.
Headmaster Fr A Soosaimanickam said the book had been given to teachers and students so as to make students think beyond subjects and sensitise teachers towards the aspirations of their pupils.
“We have asked our students to go through the book and there will be a group discussion on the book in all these classes on Saturday. In near future, we are also planning to invite the author of this book to address our students and teachers,” he said.
