Shefali Sharma, who was seen as the coy, traditional Punjabi girl in Bani Ishq Da Kalma, has now taken up a contemporary role in Tum Aise Hi Rehna that went on air on Sony Entertainment Television recently. Sharma says that the character Riya, a doctor, is very similar to what she is in real life. “It’s a departure from the kind of character I was seen previously. She is straight-forward and genuine,” says Sharma.
Set in Rajasthan, the show chronicles the lives of Ria and Abhimanyu (Kinshuk Mahajan) who belong to two completely different worlds but are deeply in love. Ria comes from a contemporary middle class family, while Abhimanyu is a businessman who belongs to a rich conservative family.
Interestingly, Sharma bagged the role immediately after Bani… wrapped up. “The show was on air till June 20 last year and I had to go back to my hometown in Punjab for my marriage (with Varun Sethi). Before I left, Varun asked me to audition for all the roles that I had been called for. Luckily, I went to audition for three producers and all of them called me back,” says Sharma, who chose the first offer that came her way and is happy with the way her character is shaping up.
