‘Operation Amla’, a joint exercise by the Indian Coastguard and Andhra Pradesh police to have a reality check on the coastal security at the ground level, was concluded last week in Krishna district.
Marine and other wings of Krishna district police have been deployed at strategic places along the coastline. As part of the exercise, they inspected fishing operations in the sea and interacted with the local residents about the movement of unidentified persons in the area.
“We have inspected the entire coastline in Krishna district to keep the locals alert over the security on the land. We shared and displayed our capabilities, strategies and preparedness in coastal security to the Indian Coastguard,” said Krishna District Superintendent of Police G. Vijaya Kumar.
Police personnel were also deployed at a few strategic locations along the coast including Gilakaladindi harbour, four beaches including Manginpudi, Campbell and Puligadda Aqueduct and Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary during the exercise. “The exercise helped us to have an exposure of the operations of the Indian Coastguard”, added Mr. Vijaya Kumar.
The State marine police obtained details of the latest developments on and off the coast from fishermen.
The police deployed additional teams of marine and civil police within the area of the Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary, in which Defence Research and Development Organisation has proposed to set up a ‘Missile Test Launch Facility’.
Strategic locationSince many science research institutes have evinced interest for studies on the sanctuary comprising dense mangrove forest, the location has become one of the strategic places for police to keep vigil on the movement of outsiders.
