“Why raise Kavitha issue today?”

Arguments continue over TRS MP’s dual entry in household survey

November 13, 2014 12:21 am | Updated April 09, 2016 09:54 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The TDP questioned the government why it did not react to allegation of TRS MP of Nizamabad K. Kavitha’s dual entry in the household survey on Tuesday when the matter was raised in the Assembly, and how it was justified in raking up the matter today.

Finance Minister Eatala Rajender said the government took time to verify the charge with the enumerators who went to Ms. Kavitha’s residence in Banjara Hills, cluster in-charge, tahsildar and the revenue divisional officer. All of them confirmed that it was false. The TDP deputy leader A. Revanth Reddy told the House that the government backed off when he mentioned that Ms. Kavitha had enrolled herself as a resident of Banjara Hills and also Pothangal village of Navipet mandal in Nizamabad district. Mr. Reddy was joined by Congress member Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka who also questioned the government’s intent on reviving a controversy when the House was discussing budget.

Barring Congress which urged Mr. Reddy to withdraw his remark, all other parties asked him to tender apology without taking it as a matter of prestige. The TDP, however, urged the Speaker to consider its privilege motion against IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao. Then, the party will address the issue of Ms. Kavitha.

Revanth insulted women: TRS

Women legislators from TRS accused TDP leader A. Revanth Reddy of insulting Telangana women, and demanded an apology from him.

MLAs G. Sunitha and K. Surekha at a press conference alleged that Mr. Reddy had shown fake documents as evidence against the MP, and said it amounted to violation of rules. They lamented that even Congress legislators supported Mr. Reddy in this.

Earlier, TDP MLAs S.Venkata Veeraiah and K.P. Vivekananda charged that the TRS stalled the Assembly only to prevent Mr. Reddy from speaking. Mr. Vivekananda said TRS was using women legislators as a cover against Mr. Reddy. Ch.Ramachandra Reddy from BJP noted that disrupting the members’ addresses repeatedly is against the decorum of the House, and said the Assembly should not be a forum for politics.
