An Open Letter To The Rs.100 crore club

It must really be lonely out there? As well as bullish!
Bullish because all who have gotten membership into your fold must be speculating on their next move to make another Rs100 crore!
Lonely because, inspite of so many members, no one is really enjoying being there; all they want is to make some more money and maybe set up another club Rs 200 crore where it would be even more lonely and even more bullish.
Akshay Kumar highlighted this craze in The Shaukeens last week. This craze of amassing obscene amount of wealth with irrelevant script and mediocre performances.
Money is what all the makers of the films want to make and BIG money. No harm with that, after all, we all want to make money.
But I would request you to set strict guidelines for entry into your Club from now on. Let it not be a 'free-for-all', 'anyone-can-come'', 'raddiwaala club'. I would request you to set some high standards for actors and film-makers wanting membership here.
Here are a few thoughts:
1) Ensure that films making it to your Club are intelligently made, with a good storyline.
2) Ensure that this good storyline is backed with acting in the real sense of the word. Acting with a WOW factor, like say a Gregory Peck in MACKENNA'S GOLD or Al Pacino in SCENT OF A WOMAN or closer home Vidya Balan in DIRTY PICTURE or Amitabh Bachchan in LAWAARIS, BLACK and PAA or even Shahid Kapoor in HAIDER. Don't tolerate lesser acting standards.
3) Ensure that anyone trying to gain wrongful entry through means of madness with 'no script' and 'no acting' are banned permanently from seeking a re-entry.
Let there be awe in being present in a Club like yours. Let there be respect for fellow members and for newer members, an incentive for getting there. Let quality be the criteria not just the balance sheet.
You owe this to us filmgoers. It's not right to be subjected to trash with big names that masquerade as films just because there is a huge amount of money pumped in for marketing.
Also ensure that no 'bully films' make it there by edging out smaller films by occupying all the screens leaving the audience no choice but watch it.
Yours is an elite Club, and the members who are there should be looked at with respect by the aam junta who contribute their hard-earned money to build the numbers for the film-makers.
It is our money that makes their Crores. Let's not forget that.
Instead of them laughing all the way to the bank, turn the tables and make us laugh or smile all the way home from the multiplex after having watched a good film.
