Vickrant Mahajan performed the feat to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, for the second time
Vickrant Mahajan makes a movie in 24 hours
The last Guinness World Record for the fastest film, from script to screen, was 10 days, 4 hours and 47 minutes.
Last Thursday on his birth day, Vickrant Mahajan, former Mr India, motivational speaker, bestselling author and film producer, broke the record set in Namibia in March, 2014 by scripting, shooting, editing, mixing and releasing an 80-minute film, Yes, Thank You Universe, in a day.
Vickrant plans to set at least 10 new records and that prompts the first question:
Why the urge to set world records? So I can inspire more people, rather than impress them. I'm a motivational speaker and author of six books. In my last best seller, Stretch Yourself, I urged people to fulfil their potential to the fullest and in the next one, Yes, Thank You Universe, I impressed on the need to express grati tude for all that's happened, even that which may seem unpalatable at present but eventually turns out to be a blessing in disguise as the protagonist in my film finds out after he's fired from his job. In September, I set a record with the world's longest speech. Over 48 hours and 31 minutes, I enlisted 400 reasons to be grateful for everything in life after this casual query to a guest at a party drew a blank. Six weeks later, I made this film to underline the same message. In February 2015, I'm aiming for a third record with the world's longest play.
Which process of filmmaking posed the toughest challenge? Since I've written books, penning the screenplay, which I started at 1.30 am, was easy. I completed my story in 16 scenes, with an average running time of five minutes each. I started shooting with two cameras as there was no time for retakes, at Andheri's Gemini Studio, at 8 am, with six actors--Manoj Pahwa, Dilshad Patel, Kristine Zedek, Sundeep Koachar and Nidish Bhatia. None of them, and that includes the crew and the studio, charged a rupee which brought the budget down to a couple of lakhs. Nidish and I played double roles and it was a wrap by 4 pm. We filmed on different floors of Gemini Studio, shooting and editing on-line simultaneously. Editing posed the biggest challenge because of the three machines I had hired, one broke down and the second stopped too when we were halfway through. We finally finished around 8.30 pm. We then took a digital file on a hard drive to LightBox Theatre where it was downloaded and played back to an audi ence of 35 at 10 pm on the same day.
Was an adjudicator from Guinness present at the show? It's simpler and cheaper to appoint wit nesses who were present on the sets. We also filmed the entire film-making proc ess to authenticate the proceedings.
Will this film get a theatrical release?I'm planning a limited release in a few select theatres and also on TV. Also, I plan to upload it on YouTube. The more people it reaches, the more effective will be my message.
