COIMBATORE: S Shajahan, 41, a member of the banned Al-Umma outfit who was arrested from his residence at Kuniamuthur by CB-CID Special Investigation Division (SID) on Monday was produced before the judicial magistrate court on Tuesday. He was arrested for his involvement in planting explosives at Classic Tower apartments on December 1, 1997.
The JM-III magistrate (in charge) Deepa remanded him to judicial custody for 15 days.
He had been evading arrest for the last 17 years and was working as a sales manager in Riyadh.
The CB-CID has filed a petition before the court, seeking seven days of police custody.
According to the source, Shajahan was interrogated by a team of SID, led by ADSP G Stallin on Monday evening. Police asked him about the time he spent in hiding in Riyadh and collected information on how he escaped there 17 years ago. The sources added that police asked him about another accused Mujibur Rehman who is also wanted in connection with the serial bomb blast in Coimbatore city on February 14, 1998 and is currently on the run.
