Shame that Tamil is not court language in TN: Tarun Vijay
CHENNAI: In a rare honour, BJP Rajya Sabha MP and former editor of RSS’s weekly organ ‘Panchajanya’ Tarun Vijay was felicitated by Tamil literary personalities on Tuesday in Chennai. The initiative was taken by ‘Vetri Tamizhar Peravai,’ headed by poet Vairamuthu.
Tarun, known for his love of Tamil, said that the biography of Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar should be made part of the syllabus in schools all over the country.
“We will take the initiative to introduce Tirukkural in 500 educational institutions from January. I will also launch a centre for propagating Tamil language at my residence in Dehradun, Uttarakhand,” Tarun told the crowd amidst applause.
Last September, Tarun Vijay spoke in Rajya Sabha demanding that Tamil be made the second official language of India. He also made a fresh representation to President Pranab Mukherjee for the use of Tamil in the high court in Tamil Nadu in August.
He said BJP will celebrate Thiruvalluvar's birthday and make efforts to give national status to the home of poet and revolutionary Subramanya Bharati in Varanasi.
“We are ashamed that we could not have Tamil in Madras HC even 67 years after Independence,” Tarun said.
Earlier in the day, the BJP MP said that he was against the imposition of any language. The MP from Uttarakhand is scheduled to meet the family members of the five fishermen who are facing death penalty in Sri Lanka. Tarun expressed confidence that all five will be brought back safe.
Many leaders, including Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan, Ela Ganesan, DMK’s Duraimurugan and T K S Elangovan and MDMK’s Mallai Satya attended the event.
