UPA repeat: Type VIII bungalow for Rawat

The other two members of the committee are Urban Development minister M Venkaiah Naidu and Road and Shipping minister Nitin Gadkari.

In a re-run of the UPA government’s policies, the newly-constituted Cabinet Committee on Accommodation (CCA) cleared the allotment of a Type VIII bungalow for Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat from the state quota during its first meeting Tuesday. The three-member CCA, headed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, cleared the allotment of the sprawling bungalow on 9, Teen Murti Lane to the CM, even though the quota applies for officials of the state government who work in the capital.

The committee also cancelled the allotment of the 2, Motilal Nehru Place bungalow to Congress leader Murli Deora and the allotment of the 7, Motilal Nehru Place bungalow to Congress MP K T S Tulsi.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a foreign tour, this is the first time the CCA has met since its constitution in July this year.

During the fag-end of UPA’s tenure, the then CCA had cleared allotments of Type VIII bungalows for CMs of Himachal Pradesh and Assam. While Himachal CM Virbhadra Singh continues to stay in the house, Assam CM Tarun Gogoi had refused to move into the Janpath Lane house. Soon after coming to power, the NDA government had put on hold the UPA government’s last order for allotment of bungalows. The list also included allotment to Rawat.
