G.K. Vasan to launch new party on 28 November
G.K. Vasan says he will announce party's name at public meeting on 28 November in Tiruchirpalli
Chennai: Former Union minister G.K. Vasan, who broke away from the Congress, is all set to launch his political party at a public meeting in Tiruchirapalli on 28 November.
Addressing a meeting of women supporters in Chennai on Tuesday, Vasan said the public meeting where he will announce the name of the party and flag will be held on 28 November in G Corner grounds, Ponmalai in Tiruchirpalli.
“The meeting will make not just Tamil Nadu but the whole of India to turn around and take note," he said.
“We would build the new party on the existing Congress vote bank and the supporters of the political party," said Vasan earlier.
On 3 November, Vasan said that those who were supposed to strengthen the party’s affairs in Tamil Nadu had failed to do their duty and therefore he had decided to quit the party. Vasan’s move came after E.V.K.S Elangovan took over the reins of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committe from B.S Gnanadesikan on Sunday.
Earlier, he said the to-be launched outfit will give due importance to women and youth, and will come to the streets to fight for people’s issues.
Following this, Elangovan urged him not to be the “prodigal son" and wanted him to return to the party.
“I have great regard for your father (late G.K. Moopanar). You are the pet child of the Congress party. Still, if you don’t reverse your decision, I have the only option of wishing you well," he had said.
