World's tallest Holiday Inn debuts in Manhattan

The new Holiday Inn Financial District in Manhattan is the tallest in the world.

New York is a city of superlatives, a place that seems to have the biggest, brightest, boldest of just about anything.

So it's no wonder that when InterContinental Hotels Group decided to build the tallest Holiday Inn in the world, the company chose to do it in Manhattan's Financial District.

"It's not your typical Holiday Inn," said General Manager Greg Riley during a recent tour of the new property.

The new Holiday Inn stands 453 feet tall. It has 50 stories and 492 rooms.

Rooms have views of the Hudson River and One World Trade Center. From one room on the 48th floor, you can even catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty. Not bad for rates that can run as low as $250 on some nights.

The new Holiday Inn Manhattan-Financial District, managed by Crescent Hotels and Resorts, opened late last month in a part of the city that is booming with development. One World Trade Center welcomed its first tenants just last week.

The hotel is located within walking distance of Freedom Tower and the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum. Since 2003, the residential population in Lower Manhattan has jumped nearly 85%, and an estimated 6 million visitors head to the area each year.

"We are excited about the role this property is playing in the revitalization of Manhattan's historic Financial District," says Heather Balsley, senior vice president for the Americas of the Holiday Inn brands. "This beautiful hotel embodies our commitment to provide our guests what they value most when they are travelling: the contemporary design, modern amenities, and warm, welcoming service that distinguishes the Holiday Inn brand."
