Aronian beats Inarkiev in Tigran Petrosian Tournament

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 11, ARMENPRESS: The leader of the Armenian men’s chess team Levon Aronian won Ernesto Inarkiev in the last round of the Tigran Petrosian Tournament. The grand masters made 65 moves. This was Aronian’s first victory after the past 6 rounds. Aronian won 4 out of 7 possible points and got the 4th position.
The winner of the Tigran Petrosian Tournament is Alexander Grischuk with 5,5 points.
A super tournament dedicated to the memory of Tigran Petrosian was held on November 4-11, 2014 in Moscow, Russia. Chairman of the Memorial’s Organizing Committee is the President of the Republic of Armenia, President of the Armenian Chess Federation Serzh Sargsyan. Chairman of the Appeals Committee is GM Rafael Vaganian.
GMs Levon Aronian (Armenia), Vladimir Kramnik, Alexander Grischuk, Alexander Morozevich, Ernesto Inarkiev (Russia), Boris Gelfand (Israel), Peter Leko (Hungary) and Ding Liren (China) participated in the tournament.
Levon Aronian is an Armenian chess Grandmaster. On the May 2012 FIDE list, he was ranked number two in the world and had an Elo rating of 2825, making him the third highest rated player in history. The FIDE has published the ratings list for November of the current year. This time Aronian is already on the 4th spot of the list. The Armenian GM advanced for one position in comparison with the previous month’s results. Levon Aronian’s current rating is 2797. The reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen tops the ranking list with 2863 points. Fabiano Caruana representing Italy maintained the 2nd position. Veselin Topalov is the third.
Aronian won the Chess World Cup 2005. He led the Armenian national team to the Gold medals in the 2006 (Turin), 2008 (Dresden) and 2012 (Istanbul) Chess Olympics and at the World Team Chess Championship in Ningbo 2011. He won the FIDE Grand Prix 2008–2010, qualifying him for the Candidates tournament for the World Chess Championship 2012, where he was knocked out in the first round. He was also World Chess960 Champion in 2006 and 2007, World Rapid Chess Champion in 2009, and World Blitz Chess Champion in 2010.
Levon Aronian was declared the best sportsman of Armenia in 2005 and was awarded the title of "Honored Master of Sport of the Republic of Armenia" in 2009.
