Members of the Sawani Mother’s Club in Naitasiri can help provide for their families, thanks to the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation.

The club was donated two sewing machines by the ministry yesterday to help members earn for their families.

“This is the first time we have approached the ministry for help and we are thankful for their support,” Uday Kumari, 54, the club’s president said.

The club has seven members.

“I will go back and teach the other members how to sew different types of clothes for us to sell and earn money.”

Ms Kumari said her club members wanted to help in supporting their families financially.

The Minister for Women, Rosy Sofia Akbar said, “These two sewing machines are very beneficial if we put them to good use.

“You need to make sure that the machines are kept well and if there is a malfunction, then the club needs to repair it.”

Ms Akbar said the idea was for everyone to put their differences aside and support other women.

“We need to learn and help each other and help alleviate poverty,” she said.

Meanwhile, the ministry had given out 2950 sewing machines to 1455 women’s groups countrywide.
