A woman strangled her husband to death with the help of her mother over a financial dispute at Vanasthalipuram, the police said on Monday.

A few hours after killing her husband, Sravan Kumar, 33, Pavani rang up Vanasthalipuram police admitting to her offence. She was taken into custody along with her mother for questioning.

Kumar, a lecturer, had heated arguments with his wife at their house at Balajinagar of Injapur on Sunday night over spending money accrued through the sale of their house at Bonguluru.

Kumar wanted Rs. 1.5 lakh paid by the buyer towards advance for personal use while his wife wanted the money to get back her gold jewellery he had mortgaged.

“It seems he had secured loan by pledging her jewellery and purchased a car. The debts piled up as he failed to clear the instalments,” the Vanasthalipuram ACP L. Anand Bhaskar said.

Pavani and her mother heard Kumar telling his father over phone that he had collected Rs. 1.5 lakh from the buyer. Immediately, Pavani demanded that he hand over the money to her to get back her ornaments while her mother supported her.

Enraged over this, Kumar rushed towards his mother-in-law but his wife caught him from behind and pulled him down. As the lecturer fell on his back, Pavani strangled him to death while her mother held his legs.

Kumar had earlier worked as lecturer in an engineering college. Two months ago, he joined VMR Polytechnic College in Station Ghanpur of Warangal district.
