LNMU intercollege youth fest starts
Madhubani: Intercollege Youth Festival 2014 of L N Mithila University, Darbhanga, took off to a colourful start after the event was formally inaugurated by pro-VC of the university, Dr Saiyad Mumtazuddin, at J N College, Madhubani, on Monday. So far nine colleges of the university out of 42 constituent colleges have reported their participation for various events and the number of participants at the four-day event is about 200.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function, the pro-VC underlined the importance of organizing such events for the development of personality of boys and girls and expressed his disappointment over many colleges not sending their teams to participate in the youth festival.

Even as LNMU has been regularly participating at such cultural meets at national-level and winning laurels, the ambit of such activities needs to be expanded, he asserted.
Talking of the impediments, the pro-VC said only 17 colleges have sanctioned posts of physical training instructors (PTIs) and a large number of colleges have no infrastructure and zeal to pursue cultural and related activities.
He, however, sounded a positive note when he hoped that dearth of PTIs can be solved by outsourcing competent people for the job and for cultural activities colleges can be clubbed together at the local level. The guest of honour on the occasion, proctor of the university, Ahay Nath Jha, spoke about the rich cultural heritage of Mithila and exhorted the participants to preserve and promote that lineage.
Earlier, principal of the college, RK Mandal, while welcoming the guests, said the difficulty in organizing the event in a short period notwithstanding, cooperation of teachers and staff made it possible to host the event for the first time.
Principals of RK College, JMDPL College and BM College apart from a large number of academics, boys and girls attended the function. The organizing secretary of the event, Birendra Kumar Srivastava, said competitions in 25 disciplines are spread over four days and the event will conclude on November 13 when the winners will get prizes from the VC, Saket Kushwaha.
