Sunil Sukhada and Ponnamma Babu will be Soman and Jayabharathi in their next
Sunil Sukhada is one of those actors who got into films in a later stage of his career. However, in the last three years, the actor has bagged supporting roles in no less than 50 films. Sunil, who has an interesting character in Mammootty-starrer Varsham, will be seen in a never-seen-before role in Ivan Maryadaraman, where he and Ponnamma Babu play a couple named Soman and Jayabharathi, the parents of the heroine.
The actor is currently shooting for the Dileep-starrer in Palani.
He has also signed up for Life of Josekutty, directed by Jeethu Joseph, and Vineeth Kumar’s Fahadh-starrer, where he plays a film producer. Among all the movies that he has done so far, Varsham is special to him, as his character has several dimensions, he says. “Usually all the characters I get have solely comic flavour, but in Varsham, my role as a bank official has a tragic shade as well.”
Sunil attributes his popularity in films to theatre, which he is still very much involved in. “In fact, it was after seeing a play I acted in, Spinal Chord, that I was invited to my first film. Chappa Kurishu and Salt ‘n’ Pepper were released in the same year and I am lucky both were hits,” he says. However, though he has been a theatre actor for the past 15 years, he started getting recognised only after entering films. “Films bring recognition, money and popularity. But my passion is acting, and thus both theatre and films are equally important to me,” he signs off.
