SURAT: Navsari rural police seized
jewellery and cash worth Rs 34.42 lakh from a farm labourer of Kasba village in Navsari district on Sunday . The jewellery was found after a farm at Kadipore village in the district was dug up reportedly by Soma Halpati, who has since been held.
The accused, who had hidden the jewellery in his bathroom, was unable to satisfactorily tell the police from where he got the ornaments.
Sources claim that Halpati had found the jewellery while working in the farm. He didn't share the details about the treasure with anyone. Navsari police are now likely to hand over the investigation into the case to the crime branch, the sources added.
Police have found 12 gold coins, one gold ornament set, a bracelet, two bangles, a necklace, a gold chain, a ring and earrings worth Rs 34 lakh from the accused. They have also recovered Rs 35,000 in cash from him.tnn
