Banish open defecation like Cong from state: Anandiben

Patel said not having toilet at home was a great inconvenience.

Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on Sunday called on people to banish the practice of open defecation “like they had banished Congress from  Gujarat.” “You all resolved to make Gujarat Congress mukta. And now see the results! Haven’t we made Gujarat Congress mukta? The same way, I urge people to resolve to banish the practice of open defecation from the state by building toilets and also make the state clean by clearing dirt,” the CM said.

Patel was addressing people at a fund-raising event organised by Shri Saurashtra Leuva Patel Samaj Trust, a social organisation of Leuva Patel community. The Trust is headed by Vitthal Radadiya, BJP MP from Porbandar. “I congratulate those who have pledged crores of rupees to the Trust for building community houses in Haridwar, Mathura and Dwarka. But I also invite them to make small contribution towards building toilets in the state,”she said.

Patel said not having toilet at home was a great inconvenience since even pregnant women had to wait till nightfall to answer nature’s call at the risk of their health.

“When Vitthalbhai is organising such huge events for building community houses, I suggest the trust to build one more such house in Kashi…. I also appeal him to hold such events at district level to raise fund for building toilets,” Patel said. The event witnessed more than Rs 35 crore donations being pledged for the community house projects. Besides, Gajera, Nirma Group Chairman Karsan Patel and younger brother of Suzlon chiefTulsi Tanti were prominent donors. Patel felicitated Radadiya and his family for “setting an example by arranging the remarriage of his widowed daughter-in-law and also gifting her property worth Rs 100 crore.”

Festive offer

She also performed pooja of the ceremonial stone for the proposed community house in Haridwar. Radadiya said the community house in Dwarka was expected to be thrown open in six months.
