SRINAGAR : Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers were stranded at different places on both sides of the Zojila pass on 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh National Highway, which remained closed for the fourth day today, due to slippery road conditions.
A traffic police spokesperson said highway connecting Ladakh region with the Kashmir valley remained closed after fresh snowfall, landslides and slippery road conditions on November 7.
He said Border Roads Organistion (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, had been pressed into service.
Also, sophisticated machines and men were put through to clear the highway.
However, due to sub-zero temperature during night, the road is slippery which could cause accident, he said adding that traffic will be allowed only after receiving green signal from the BRO and traffic police personnel, deployed at different places on both sides of the Zojila pass. Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicle are stranded on both sides of the pass.
Vehicles carrying essentials for Ladakh region for the winter months also remained stranded at Sonamarg and other places, due to heavy snowfall.
Similarly, empty trucks and oil tankers from different parts of Ladakh are also stranded on the other side of the pass.
