A baby girl is born on Bus No. 835

Devi reportedly went into labour along the way after the bus got stranded in a traffic jam.

A 32-year-old woman gave birth to a baby girl in a public bus in Southwest Delhi’s Najafgarh area Sunday afternoon. Chinta Devi, who comes from Bihar, was on her way alone to Rao Tula Ram Hospital as her delivery date was due.

Devi reportedly went into labour along the way after the bus got stranded in a traffic jam and gave birth to the baby on board.

The driver and the conductor reportedly parked the vehicle on the side and asked all male passengers to get off, while some women co-passengers encircled the women and helped her deliver the baby. “The women covered her with their duppattas. One of them even pulled out a bedsheet from her bag to cover the seat. One elderly co-passenger then helped the woman deliver,” said Suman, who was on the bus.
“After the girl was born, the women asked the driver to take the bus directly to the RTR hospital,” she said. The other passengers on the bus were asked to take another bus.

“We had to ask the driver to go straight to the hospital as the woman was not in a position to take an auto or taxi to the hospital. So the bus driver drove to the hospital, leaving the usual route that the bus takes,” she added.

Route number 835 bus goes from Tilaknagar to Dhasa border. The mother had boarded at Uttam Nagar.

Festive offer

“I got a call from the hospital that my wife has given birth to a baby girl. I am thankful to the driver that he took her safely to the hospital,” Santosh, Devi’s husband said.

The mother and child are reported to be safe.
