Delhi Metro’s Violet Line sees most men travelling in women’s coaches

CISF collects data after women commandos are posted to remove male commuters

Months after the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) began training women commandos in a Filipino martial arts form to remove male passengers from women coaches in the Metro, an analysis of the data available with the CISF has shown that the Violet line (Central Secretariat-Badapur) has shown maximum intrusion of men in women’s coaches.

Named ‘Operation Kali’ after the martial art form Pekiti – Tirsia Kali, women commandos were stationed at Metro stations across the city to ensure the safety of women passengers.

“It had been repeatedly noticed that despite several advertisements and announcements that there are coaches reserved exclusively for women, men would still enter the coaches and trouble women passengers. We then stationed some of the commandos in plainclothes and some in uniform at stations to keep vigil,” a senior CISF official said.

Data available till October 19 shows that 394 cases of intrusion by men in women’s coaches were detected on the Violet line. The Red line (Dilshad Garden-Rithala) came in a close second with 376 cases. The Green line (Inderlok-Mundka) reported 235 cases of intrusions.
Officials said that the intruders were de-boarded by the commandos and handed over to Delhi Metro officials. The men were later fined.

CISF officials said three batches have been trained in this art form so far. The training enables the commandos to use objects as small as hairpins, shoe laces and pens to take on opponents.

Festive offer

“The move is aimed at ensuring that women personnel are equipped with unarmed combat skills which minimises the use of weapons,” the official said.
