MUMBAI: NCP supremo Sharad Pawar is all set to attend the forthcoming Annual Gen eral Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on November 20 in Chennai.
This is the first time Pawar will attend any BCCI meet since taking charge in his second term as the president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) last year. "Till now, PV Shetty (MCA secretary) was representing the MCA, while Ravi Savant (MCA vice-president) was there in the Board as the BCCI vice-president.
However, 'Saheb' told us today that he would be going to Chennai," said a senior MCA official, after a Managing Committee (MC) meeting of the association.
The MCA has, meanwhile, requested the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) to implement legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's '15-a-side' idea in its inter-school tournaments -the Harris and the Giles Shield. "We have given our green signal in this regard. The ball is now in MSSA's court, since they conduct inter-school cricket," said an official.
In another development, the association has decided to address the BCCI's concerns about the TV production room in the basement of the media centre at the Wankhede Stadium. The TV production room was deemed as 'dangerous' in case of a fire mishap by the BCCI officials, and that was one of the reasons cited by the IPL governing Council for shifting the IPL 7 final out of Mumbai earlier this year. Mumbai will stage the Deodhar Trophy from November 29-December 3.
