Girl was crying in fear when women found her
THIRTHAHALLI: Kamalamma and Jayamma, the two women who found the semi-conscious schoolgirl at Anandagiri hill in Thirthahalli on October 29, said they found her all alone. The two labourers, who had gone to collect firewood, heard the girl cry out near a bush and rushed to her.
The statement recorded by the two women, who were the first to see the 14-year-old girl, says she was weeping when they saw her.

“The girl was in a state of fear. She requested us for water. There were no one with her, nor did we see anybody running away from the scene. There was no vehicle in the area. She only requested for water. When we asked her why she was weeping, she murmured that a person had brought her here in a car but she doesn’t know who he was, and didn’t disclose any further information,” the statement said.
“She rested in our house for more than half an hour. Meanwhile, we took her father’s address and informed him about the incident. Her father came on a bike and took her to their house at Balebailu.”
LITTLE PROGRESS, MUCH CONFUSION
Ten days after the incident shocked the state, the CID, entrusted with the task of unravelling the murky death, is yet to reach any clarity in understanding what happened that day. It has achieved little progress in pinpointing the reason behind the incident.
The investigation team visited a number of places, questioning people and collecting records connected to the incident.
Meanwhile, the town of Shivamogga has gradually returned to a semblance of normalcy. Schools and colleges are working as usual, and agitations which raged across the district for a week have subsided.

BJP district leaders presented a memorandum to the DC, urging the government to expedite the investigation and charged that the probe team is dragging the process.
Congress leaders, workers and the public have criticized the statement issued by leader of the opposition in the council KS Eswarappa on the home minister and chief minister. Former minister Kumar Bangarappa termed it “immoral and unethical”. Volunteers held a dharna in protest against his remarks in front of his house at Malleswaranagar in Shivamogga.
