JAIPUR: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) plans to extend the green valley project along the Delhi road up to Kunda area . The total stretch under the project will now cover a 9-km distance.
In Phase I of the project, the civic body started developing green valley from Transport Nagar to Purnai Chungi, a distance of 4 km.
"After receiving directions from the local self governance secretary, Manjit Singh, we are planning to extend the project.
A consultant will be appointed to maintain the detail project report," a senior JMC official said.
It was also proposed that JMC will develop commercial areas between the 9-km stretch to generate revenue which then can be utilized to maintain the valley. "We will also prepare a rehabilitation plan for slum area which comprises 417 families," the official said.
Explaining the green valley concept, an official said, "We plan to plant various varieties of trees in the valley. It will give a serene look to the tourist coming from Delhi. Moreover, people can have a pleasant view similar to that of Hyderabad and other foreign cities," the official said.
The corporation has announced to spend Rs 10 crore to develop the first phase of the project. The project will also have three parks. These parks will be developed near Bengali Baba Ki Bagichi, Idgah Maidan and
Govardhan Puri. At present, there are no parks in the area and heaps of filth can be seen on these vacant lands. Residents and commuters in the area were distressed by stink emanating from the wastes dumped by small scale leather and dye factories.
Parth Kumar, a local resident, said, "It is a good move to protect the land from encroachment and utilize it in a proper manner as it had been filled with so much filth all this while. It could also become a tourist attraction as many of them visit this place daily to go to Jal Mahal."
Officials said work to construct walls on either side of the valley's stretch is on in full swing. As the area is dark once the sun sets, high mast lights will be put up at some places. JMC also plans to construct a huge gate at the entrance of Khole ke Hanumanji in the future.
