BRIEF: Architect contract for AEA remodeling formally OK'd [Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Iowa]

(Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier (IA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Nov. 07--CEDAR FALLS -- The Area Education Agency 267 Board of Directors has formally approved an agreement with a Waterloo architecture firm for a first-phase remodeling of its conference center at 3712 Cedar Heights Drive.

The board approved the contact with Struxture Architects at an expense not to exceed 8.75 percent of the total cost of the project, agency spokeswoman Beth Strike said.

Though bids have yet to be let, construction costs are estimated at $783,300, or $950,000 when fees and contingencies are added. The board has approved and expenditure of up to $1 million.

"There was not a bid process for selecting an architectural firm because it is a contracted service," Strike said of the decision to retain Struxture. "We chose Struxture because of our historical working relationship and the efficiencies created by working with the same firm that had guided prior projects related to our facilities." The project is expected to improve workflow for employees, with updated work stations.

The board is expected to award a construction contract for the work at its February meeting. The first phase would be completed next fall.
