Medics, police and civil protection officers are currently in Triq Santu r-Rokku in Mosta to take a young woman suffering from suspected Ebola to Mater Dei Hospital.

The case is not real but was made up as part of a planned national Ebola drill.

The story is that the  “victim”, a 23-year-old woman arrived on a flight from Rome on November 4.

She told the airport clinic she had been in Liberia for 21 days. She was assessed as low risk and was monitored by the Health Department.

This morning the health authorities received a call from the victim's mother saying her daughter had woken up with a high temperature, and was suffering from diarrhoea and headaches.

A purposely set up core team from the Accident and Emergency met at the Anaesthesia Department and planned the woman’s retrieval as a possible Ebola patient.

The medics, police and civil protection officers are currently on site. In the rain, they set up an isolator in which they placed the 'victim' to prepare her for transportation to Mater Dei.

The patient was in the ambulance ready to be taken to hospital by 12.15pm.

The drill follows a number of others that have been held over the past few months in various areas to test the response should a case of Ebola present itself.
