Manav scores a hattrick

Playing probably the best table tennis of his life yet, Surat-based paddler Manav Thakkar scored a hattrick of titles when he captured the sub-junior boys' title at the National Ranking (East Zone) Table Tennis Championships in Durgapur on Wednesday.

AHMEDABAD: Playing probably the best table tennis of his life yet, Surat-based paddler Manav Thakkar scored a hattrick of titles when he captured the sub-junior boys' title at the National Ranking (East Zone) Table Tennis Championships in Durgapur on Wednesday.
This is Manav's third title on the trot as he has already claimed the Central and West Zone events.
Petroleum Sports Promotion Board Academy's (PSPBA) Thakkar crushed West Bengal's Jeet Chandra 4-2 in a one-sided affair.
Manav had defeated Jeet for his Central and West Zone titles too.
In cadet boys, another PSPB boy H Jeho Himnakulhpuingheta downed Delhi's Yanshansh Malik 4-1, while Munmun Kundu defeated Vanshika Bhargava 4-1 to claim the crown. The Delhi girl, who reached the West Zone final too, again finished the bride's maid.
Gujarat's Manush Shah also did a good job in the sub-junior boys' category but again failed to go past the rampaging Manav.
The Results: Sub-junior boys' final: Manav Thakkar (PSPBA) beat Jeet Chandra (WB) 4-2 (7-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-13, 11-9, 11-3). Sub-junior girls' final: Srushti Haleangadi (Maha) beat Selena Deepthi Selvakumar (TN) 4-0 (11-6, 14-12, 11-5, 11-8).
Cadet boys' final: H Jeho Himnakulhpuingheta (PSPBA) beat Yanshansh Malik (Delhi) 4-1 (11-7, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8). Cadet girls' final: Munmun Kundu (WB) beat Vanishka Bhargava (Delhi) 4-1 (11-8, 3-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9).
