Happy New Year has had the box-office registers ringing ever since its Diwali release. While the team of the film has been celebrating its success since then, they got one more reason to be together and raise a toast when they shot the video of the song, Sharabi recently. The audio for this number played as the end credits rolled. All it needed was a video. “We recently shot the song and it was aired on TV on October 31,” said a reliable source from Red Chillies.
Shekhar Ravijani, who composed Sharabi with Vishal Dadlani, explained the theme of the song which essentially is about a party goer who doesn’t drink yet gets labeled a sharabi. The song that features the entire star cast has a stanza dedicated to yesteryear stars like Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda who were revered for their ingenious style of dancing. With lyrics like: One drink down mein Govinda; two drink down mein Jeetendra; three down mein sharabi ka Bachchan; four drink down and I dance like Dharmendra, the song pays a tribute to these four legends.
While Govinda reigned in the 90’s with numbers like Mein toh raste se ja raha tha, Jeetendra was a very versatile dancer and impressed us with his unique moves in Caravan’s Chadhti jawaani teri chaal mastani. “All four innovated their own style of dancing and the junior actors know most of their steps which are world famous. Ganesh Hegde, who directed the video has incorporated the steps well with the music and the tune,” added Ravijani as he explained the reference to the four veterans.
