Guru Nanak stayed one night at Naka Hindola
LUCKNOW: As gurudwaras were decked up in the city on Thursday on the occasion of birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, first guru of Sikhs, the biggest congregations of over 20,000 devotees comprising people of all faiths was seen at Bal Sangrahalaya Lawns, Charbagh. Many came to know through a booklet based on the historical account, distributed on Thursday, that Guruji had visited the city in 1508 and stayed for a night a place in Naka Hindola, where a gurudwara was built in 1898.
The booklet is based on the findings of Gyani Harvinder Singh, head Granthi of Gurudwara Naka Hindola, who studied several historical accounts and visited places where Guruji stayed while travelling this part of the country centuries ago. Guruji on his way from Hardwar to Ayodhya, stayed in Bareilly, Lucknow, Kanpur and Allahabad among other places. The booklet is available in Punjabi and Hindi language.
Harminder Singh, member of Lucknow Gurudwara Committee, said, “there are historical accounts suggesting that Guru Nanak Dev, during his journey of around six months from Hardwar to Ayodhya stayed in Lucknow for a night in Naka Hindola. He also stayed in Kakori and met Bhagat Bhikhan Ji.” People after reading the booklet congratulated the Lucknow Gurudwara Committee members.
Shabad and Kirtan by Gyanis, some of them have come from abroad, continued all day at the venue. Kirtan by students of Gurmati Sangeet Academy was appreciated by one and all. “Guru Nanak Jayanti reminds us that all are equal in the eyes of God and the path of right living is by serving and helping others,” said Gurmeet Kaur, one of the volunteers serving at the langar. Besides this, ‘Kadaa Prasad’ was also distributed among the visitors.
