Bridge in Adilabad to reduce drive to Raipur

November 07, 2014 12:07 am | Updated 12:07 am IST - ADILABAD:

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to announce sanction of a Rs. 75 crore road bridge across the Pranahita river at Gudem and Bejjur mandal. The bridge which will reduce the distance between Hyderabad and Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh, by about 100 km has been a long pending demand of people of Sirpur constituency in Adilabad district who share relations with Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.

Sirpur MLA Koneru Konappa told The Hindu on Thursday that Mr. Rao was equally keen on construction of the bridge as it connects the eastern part of Adilabad not only with Chhattisgarh but with Madhya Pradesh. The time is appropriate for sanctioning the bridge as it is also time for laying of new two lane roads connecting mandal headquarters with the district headquarter.

“We feel as if we got Telangana today,” Mr. Konappa said as he recalled the in principle go ahead given by the Chief Minister. He thanked the latter for his gesture.

Traffic from Hyderabad will take the Karimnagar-Mancherial-Kagaznagar-Koutala-Gudem route to cross the proposed bridge and reach Aheri in Maharashtra from where the road leads to Raipur and further to Madhya Pradesh. The survey and site selection for the proposed bridge have already been done, according to the MLA.
