Channel the detective within you

November 06, 2014 11:05 am | Updated 11:05 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Mystery buffs in the city put on your thinking hats and head to Hauz Khas Village as there is a mystery waiting to be solved.

Crtl.Shif.Esc, a real-life escape game, gives every participant a chance to be Hercule Poirot or Sherlock Holmes for an hour.

Video gamers who want to get out of the virtual world and those who are always trying to solve a murder one-step ahead of television detectives will be given the opportunity to dig themselves out of a situation by solving a puzzle or be trapped in a room.

Crtl.Shif.Esc’s first game is called “The Safehouse”, in which participants are trapped in a room for a maximum of one hour. During this time, they have to solve many hidden clues, find objects, and puzzles in order to escape.

Sanwari Gupta, the creator of the game, says at first the room seems rather ordinary, but clues will soon appear. The room has CCTV cameras and microphones so that the game master can view what is going on and help guide players by giving them clues if they seem stuck.

The game is designed for ages 14 and up, but Sanwari says people mostly in the age group of 22-35 have been coming to play as it requires a certain amount of cerebral involvement and is in no way a cakewalk.

“I first played such a game in New York as a student. When I came back, I introduced the concept to Delhiites as I felt the city needed something apart from mindless entertainment on offer,” adds Sanwari.

She plans to keep creating new games and revamping the place, and even move to a larger space as the outlet tucked away inside the Village started off as a concept test.

Daksh Malhotra, who has played the game, said it is a very interesting experience as he played the game with seven friends and excitement levels are really high.

“Seven minds were thinking together to solve the mystery and this drove us in different directions. We were among the 20 per cent that managed to finish the game,” says Daksh about his experience.

A game for two costs Rs.1,200 and one needs to book a time slot online at www.ctrlshiftesc.in.
