Bengaluru: Ten practising doctors who attended post-graduation courses in seven medical colleges in the state are under police scanner after a preliminary inquiry confirmed their answer scripts for May 2014 exams had been tampered to benefit them. Three of these doctors did the PG courses in two Bengaluru colleges. “Right now, our focus is to find out how their PG answer scripts were tampered and who helped them do this,” a source said, adding that all these doctors will be questioned.
TOI had first reported (PG answer scripts tampered with) on August 7, when a three-member committee comprising senior syndicate members of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) had started looking into the matter. According to the FIR, which TOI has accessed, five of the 10 doctors joined the PG courses to become general surgeons, three pursued MD radiology, one each joined dermatology and MS orthopedics (see table). These doctors pursued their courses in some of the most reputed institutions in the state, including Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences and MVJ Medical College in Bengaluru.
Tilak Nagar police are investigating the case following a complaint filed by RGUHS on October 30. RGUHS registrar S Sachidananda had then said that the university has decided to withhold the results of these doctors and not give them degree certificates. In October, the investigating team got confirmation from the forensic department and the Hyderabad-based company that prints the answer-scripts that 19 answer scripts — belonging to the 10 doctors — had been tampered. “Those answer papers belong to these students, and now the police investigation will reveal if RGUHS insiders were party to it,” Sachidananda had said.
