PUNE: Three men pelted stones at two policemen who were on night patrolling duty near Bharati Vidyapeeth in Katraj around 10.45pm on Tuesday.
The policemen, who are attached to the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, sustained head injuries in the incident and are being treated in a private hospital.
Despite the injuries, the policemen, Ganesh Chinchkar and Kalpesh Babar, managed to nab one of the three suspects, Hrishikesh Dattatreya Paygude (19) of Kudge village in Haveli taluka.

"We were on patrolling duty on a motorcycle in the area, when we received a call regarding some ruckus on the service road of Katraj-Dehu Road bypass near Katraj chowk. We reached the spot and found Paygude along with two others. We asked the trio to leave immediately. After they left, we resumed our duty. Around 10.30pm, we received another call regarding some scuffle near Bharati Vidyapeeth. We found the same youths at the spot," Chinchkar said.
He said when he and Babar questioned the trio, they alleged that the policemen were following them and started arguing. "All of a sudden, the trio started throwing stones at us. We could nab only one of them, while the others managed to escape," he said.
Paygude has been booked under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 333 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the Indian Penal Code.
