Hathway resumes TV9 telecast

The ban lasted for 144 days
Hyderabad: Following an order from the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal, Hathway in Hyderabad on Wednesday resumed telecast of TV9 news channel, after lifting a ban that lasted 144 days.
MSOs had stopped broadcasting both TV9 and ABN Andhra Jyothi news channels following a controversy over some of their programmes, which resulted in serious protests in the Telangana Assembly last June, including from Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Mr Rao had applauded the MSOs for banning the two news channels, stating that they had no right to air programmes that insulted Telangana culture as well as showing Telangana legislators in poor light.
However, Mr M. Subhash Reddy, president, Telangana MSOs Association, told this newspaper that in view of the orders from the Disputes Tribunal, some of the MSOs like Hathway had lifted the ban and allowed telecast of TV9.
Hathway has an agreement with TV9 and resumed broadcast of the channel; other MSOs like Digi, City Vision, In-Digital, Subhodaya, RVR, Vanastalipuram Communications and Bhagyanagar Cables have not resumed since they do not have any arrangement.
Except in Hyderabad, in the remaining districts of Telangana the ban is continuing. ABN-Andhra Jyothi, which had no agreement with the MSO, is still banned by the MSOs all over the state.
Earlier, the Tribunal ordered immediate restoration of broadcast of TV9 news channel by MSOs before November 5.
