The Konkan Railway project that links Mangalore to Bombay is progressing according to plans and will be commissioned by March end, according to the Railway Minister, Mr. C. K. Jaffer Sharief. Mr. Sharief, who is here on a private visit, told Business Line that the Rs. l,800-crore, 760-km broad-gauge line would come as a boon to the people of Mangalore and the adjoining areas including Kasargod in Kerala. The journey time from Mangalore to Bombay would come down to 15 hours from the 41 hours now.

Singapore lifts curbs on Indian labour

The Singapore Government said that in response to a World Health Organisation (WHO) report that the plague situation in India was now under control, it would lift restrictions on the entry of Indian workers. “The Ministry of Labour has lifted the restriction on the entry of workers from India,” the Government said in a statement. “Individual employers who had obtained in principle approval to recruit Indian workers prior to the restriction will be informed by letter that they can now bring in workers from India.”

NSE offers multiple membership on equity

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has written to some stock exchanges announcing the opening up of membership to its equity segment to the existing members of those stock exchanges. The letter from the NSE says that this membership will be subject to the multiple membership rules of SEBI, which specify that multiple membership can be taken by corporates.
