Four militants of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) were killed in two counter-insurgency operations by the joint teams of the Assam Rifles and the Assam Police in Assam’s Dima Hasao district since Monday.
In another encounter between the National Democratic Front of Boroland (Songbijit) and joint team of the troops of the Army’s Red Horns Division and police in Ripu Reserved forest in Kokrajhar district, a self-styled Second-in-Command of the outfit’s Gossaigaon Platoon -- Philip Wari, on whom the Assam Police announced a cash reward of Rs five lakh, was killed on Wednesday. Two pistols and two hand grenades were recovered from the slain rebel.
Giving details of the operations against NSCN (IM) militants in Dima Hasao district, Defence spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Suneet Newton stated in an official release that the first operation was conducted on Monday near village Kopilo close to the tri-junction between Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, an area frequented by NSCN (IM) cadres for their transit to Assam. Body of one NSCN (IM) cadre was recovered from the spot while it was suspected the two other cadres of the outfit have succumbed to their bullet injuries during their escape. One AK 47 rifle, one Lathod rifle and one hand grenade and more than 100 rounds of ammunition were recovered during the operation.
The second operation was launched Tuesday near village Robi Basti, four km from Haflong--the headquarter town of the hill district, in which three more NSCN (IM) cadres were killed and two AK series rifle, 73 rounds of ammunition were recovered added the Defence spokesman.
